Bulgari – Serpenti

The Bulgari Serpenti love story started in the 1940s and very quickly became an icon of the brand.
The Serpenti collection draws its inspiration from Greek and Roman Mythology. For Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Serpenti embodied seduction. For Plato Serpenti symbolized eternal life. For Demeter the goddess of fertility the snake symbolized rebirth as the snake sheds its skin and is thus reborn.
The story of cleopatra herself is also linked with the serpent. The queen of Egypt who’s love story is tied to Rome through Alexander the great and Mark Anthony ended her life with the sting of the viper. She was known to wear a Cobra headdress and snake coiled jewelry around her arms.
Celerbities immediately fell in love with the Serpenti story. Elisabeth Taylor was a huge fan of the collection and wore countless pieces. Richard Burton himself once famously said, “the only Italian word Liz knows is Bulgari”.  Other notable Serpenti fans include Julianne Moore Scarlett Johansen and Carla Bruni.
The design of the collection has evolved over time making the snake look more realistic and allowing for the application of precious stones.
